29-10-2017 Metropolis by Metavari

Metropolis is a classic Science Fiction movie from 1927, way ahead of its time, inspiring lots of film makers.

It is a silent film; there is no dialogue, only some frames with text between scenes. The film does have a classical orchestral score.

It has been re-scored many times, for example by Giorgio Moroder in 1984.

This year on Record Store Day, Metavari released his own interpretation.

It's an epic electronic album, fusing lots of sub-genres and influences from other artists.

You need to listen to it on a headphone, it gets better every time!

You can still get it on Discogs, but be quick; I suspect this will become a real collector's item.

Enjoy!

24-10-2017 Who is Luigi Ceccarelli?

Watched a movie today, Rats: Night of Terror, it's from 1984 and it's bad :-).

The electronic score was kind of interesting.

I looked him up on IMDB, he did a lot of scores in the 80's and 90's.

According to Discogs he did not release much of his work (under this name).

Need to watch those other movies also, might be some more gems in there!

Anyways, here some music which I could find on YouTube.

Enjoy!

04-03-2017 I miss Peter Hyams...

Underrated writer, director and cinematographer.

Most successfull in the 70's and 80's.

Great stories and SF movies.

Watch these:

Capricorn One: "A NASA Mars mission won't work, and its funding is endangered, so they decide to fake it just this once. But then they have to keep the secret..."

Outland: "In the distant future, a police marshal stationed at a remote mining colony on the Jupiter moon of Io uncovers a drug-smuggling conspiracy, and gets no help from the populace when he later finds himself marked for murder."

The Star Chamber: "Disgusted with criminals escaping the judicial system via technicalities, an idealistic young judge investigates an alternative method for punishing the guilty."

His best movie, one of my all-time favorites: 2010: The Year We Make Contact (sequel to 2001: A Space Odyssey): "A joint U.S.-Soviet expedition is sent to Jupiter to learn what happened to the Discovery."

Others: Running Scared, The Presidio, Narrow Margin, Stay Tuned, Timecop, Sudden Death and the The Relic.

Greetings,

MvdW
